No. NYC income tax is for people who live in the city. If you live in New Jersey, Connecticut, or another part of New York and work in NYC, you do not pay the NYC resident tax. You usually still pay New York State income tax on your NYC wages. Choose "Outside the city" in the calculator to see that estimate.

A traditional 401(k) lowers the pay used to figure federal, New York State, and NYC income tax. It does not lower Social Security or Medicare tax. Health insurance and commuter benefits paid before tax, such as a transit benefit, lower income tax and also Social Security and Medicare tax. In this calculator, a 10% 401(k) contribution on a $75,000 salary lowers take-home pay by about $5,154 a year, not by the full $7,500, because your taxes go down too.
The minimum wage in New York City is $17.00 an hour in 2026. A full-time worker at that rate earns about $35,360 a year before tax ($17 × 40 hours × 52 weeks). This is a quick estimate, not a payroll run. It does not include dependents, tax credits, itemized deductions, bonuses taxed at special withholding rates, the Yonkers tax, or the New York rule that reduces the lower-bracket benefit for higher incomes. Higher earners may owe slightly more New York tax than shown. If you work overtime, use the overtime pay calculator to estimate your gross pay first. Federal workers can use the federal employee paycheck calculator. Freelancers pay self-employment tax instead of payroll tax, so they should start with the freelance rate calculator.
